Moblang Open Content & Materials

Open Content

A key aim of the Moblang project has been to make sure that the work from the project can be built upon by other projects and used in other language courses. It was initially our desire to create an open source platform for language learning via mobile phones, but this has not proved possible because of the constraints of the the project budget and timescales. Instead we made the commitment that all of the project materials would be made available to the community, so that they can be used in extending the work of the Moblang project.

This section of the website contains the links to all of the materials that have been used within the 6 courses that have been created by Moblang. All content is published under a creative commons licence.

Courses

6 Moblang courses have so far been created:

L2 -> L1

1. Greek -> Turkish - standard course
2. Turkish -> Greek - standard course
3. Turkish -> Greek - nurses vocabulary
4. Albanian -> Greek - standard course
5. Basque -> Spanish - standard course
6. Irish -> English - standard course

Content Types

Each course consists of the following content types:

1. Words & Phrases - the words and phrases used in the courses
2. Audio clips - 2nd language clips of all phases and words used in the courses.
3. Image names - images have been licenced from the fotolia website and we can not provide this content directly - only the names of the images used in our courses.

The words that are used in each course including the mappings to each language.

Audio

Audio clips are only available for the L2 language. These clips are all spoken by a mix of male and female adult speakers, except for the English -> Irish course which is spoken by children. The clips are all provided in WAV format. The volume of the clips has been normalised so that they are all at an optimum volume for playback on a mobile phone.

Images

We are not able to directly provide the images that we have used from the fotolia site as the licence we purchased for these images does not allow this. We are providing a breakdown of the images used and their fotolia ids in a CSV file.
